Midweek Portrait Gallery

A girl maybe 11 or 12 years old carrying a heavy load of cow dung. Stepping aside when a bunch of kids in school uniform pushed themselves in the foreground to be photographed.

Here are the other children...curious, open and certainly privileged. They were standing next to the girl above but are worlds apart. The caste system in India is very discriminatory and for us Westerners hard to understand.

The other day I read a poem by a 15 year old girl, and one line seems very fitting:

What is paradise, what can it be?
Is it the same to you as it is to me?

  1. I have goose bumps all over. Beautiful pictures, but what a sad story ... and it happens everywhere, all the time ...
