Entering the exhibition through the large "Lichthof", you come across 6,000 stools (some dating back to the Ming Dynasty).
It depicts the simple beauty of rural China.

Provoking the spectator by dipping old ceramic vases (Han Dynasty 202BC-220AC)
in auto paint. Mocking the nouveau-riche people with their shiny new cars in China.
Criticizing the way how China deals with its magnificent historic heritage-
" Monumental junkyard".
Copies of old wooden doors made out of marble ( Why marble? I did not understand this!) . Many historic buildings were destroyed to make space for new office buildings etc...

ReplyDeleteDurfte man denn tatsächlich einen Fotoapparat mit in die Ausstellung nehmen? Mehr und mehr wird das (leider) verboten, Ausstellungen "mit einer richtigen Kamera" fotografisch zu begleiten.

Beklemmend, wenn man die Hintergründe kennt, danke für die 'Führung' durch die Ausstellung. Soweit ich weiß, thematisieren die Türen abgerissene (alte) Gebäude und sind auch eine Referenz an seine eigene Skulptur, die er auf der documenta 12 ausgestellt hatte. Der Marmor für die Türen ist übrigens aus demselben Steinbruch, aus dem der Marmor für Maos Grabmal kam.
