If you hear Myanmar you most probably think of Bagan, the wonderful ancient city with its 2000 temples and a history which dates back to the 9th century. It is often compared to the Angkor Wat in Cambodia and as I was lucky enough to have visited both. I can only agree.
Due to its location in an active earthquake zone many temples got damaged in the past.
Many pagodas underwent restoration but these efforts drew lots of criticism as little attention was paid to its original style. Apart from using modern materials a 60 m watchtower was erected which sticks out like a sore thumb.

Nevertheless: " If you are a real Myanmar, you must have been to Bagan." I am not a Myanmar but seeing Bagan was a highlight.
Totally a favorite of mine too! Thanks for sharing!

Wonderful, wonderful photographs. Can't wait to see the glories of Bagan for myself hopefully without an earthquake! Love the flapping of wings of the pigeons in flight! I have got my whole family following your photos - keep them coming!
