A beautiful variety of rice powder. Sometimes people use as well chalk powder or white rock powder or flour.
Kolams are thought to bring prosperity and luck to the house. The design is drawn while the surface is still wet so the design will hold better. That is only the first step.
Now the prepared design is being painted. The kolam is usually done by women who sometimes start the training for the art of kolam painting at the age of six. During the day people will walk over it or the rain might wash it away- never mind tomorrow they will paint another one.
Took this pictures in Tamil Nadu / South India

very pretty artwork. a sad thought though that it could be gone the next day. the girl must be very patient.
ReplyDeleteWas für eine schöne Idee, das sollte man eigentlich auch hier einführen. Superschöne Fotos und eine noch schönere Geschichte.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! I'm always impressed with someone who creates a work of beauty that they know won't last: sand mandala, chalk painting, sandcastle, ice sculpture. Love the colors in your first picture!
