Midweek Portrait Gallery

Thanaka is a paste made from the bark or roots of the thanaka tree. The beige -white paste is used by the women of Myanmar as a sun protection and has a cooling effect. I tried - it is true. Applied on the face in circles or stripes it is a very distinctive feature.

Applied in the form of a leave…so pretty. And the girl was delightful, observing her for some time I have no idea how she managed to balance the basket on her head while fooling around.

  1. What lovely shots of the little girl! The thanaka reminds me very much of the yucca root (in the Philipphines, we peel it and use it to thicken our soups)...

  2. Oh, I am so loving those two photos of the gal balancing the basket on her head! The background, along with the designs in her skirt provide so much interest and then you have an adorable subject in the heart of it! LOVE! Great compilation for the collage. Just love these!
