Midweek Portrait Gallery

Young monks at a monastery in Myanmar.

Studying hard.

Happy about some distraction.

Getting tired...

…and bored.

Oh sweet dreams!

Accommodations are rather basic. Many Burmese boys enter a monastery for about 3 months  as a novice monk mostly when they reach the age of seven or when they are older. They are being taught the teachings of the Buddha.
Often children from poorer families who can`t afford school fees etc profit from the free monastic education.

In meinen Augen hart.
Frauke

  8. These are wonderful candids of the young monks, Karen. Great to see them with real little boy expressions... still, it's hard to believe a 7-8 year old can study so intently (wish mine had as much patience ;)
