The Weekend in Black and White

We might have heard about Africa`s "Big Five" but did you know that there is a list of the "Ugly Five"?
One of them is the Marabou Stork, a huge bird with an almost bald head. It`s nickname is "Undertaker Bird", cloak like wings and very skinny white legs. The bird reminded me of the character out of a Charles Dickens novel..Uriah Heep in David Copperfield.

  3. Ugliness of course depends on the viewer, but here one can at least appreciate the quality of the photos :-)

  5. Beautiful photos, and an ... interesting bird... It's very Uriah Heep looking, yes! And a fun fact: The bird is the symbol printed on the most traditional norwegian milk chokolates! But the icon print looks a bit more tasty...

  6. Ja, so könnte man sich Uriah Heep vorstellen, Marabus haben bestimmt auch eine schöne Seite.

  7. Oh my...what amazing captures!! The first one is definitely out of a Hitchcock movie for sure...and as ugly as this little fella is...he/she? has some beautiful feathers below the neck. Love how you captured all the details! Amazing!
