Lamu Island

A couple of days on Lamu Island in Kenya

A wonderful little island with magnificent architecture dating back to the fourteenth century when the first mosque and a harbour were founded by Arab traders.

Lamu Old Town is one of the oldest Swahili settlements in East Africa. Wonderfully carved doors are one of the many features which can still be found.

There are no roads on the island, only small alleyways. Donkeys are being used for transport and for carrying goods.

They are not always being treated well.

Stone benches provide shade and rest on a hot day .

Frauke

  2. Wow, you stayed in paradise on earth! Donkey transportation is cute. I sincerely hope for their good life.
Thanks for sharing and have a wonderful weekend.

  3. In its own way...kinda reminds me of Fez in Morocco...the water is so it as clean as it appears? Are you back home now?

  4. Looks idyllic unless perhaps you are a donkey?!
    Have a great week
    Wren x

  5. I love following along on all your amazing adventures!
