Jewish Cemetery Berlin

While spending a couple of days in Berlin last week I discovered the old Jewish Cemetery.
A unique place and well worth exploring.

It is an enchanted place... ivy overgrowing old tombstones, huge trees are lining the pathways.

It is the largest Jewish cemetery in Europe , spreading over 40ha and has 116.000 gravestones.

So many stories to tell...

The cemetery was not shut down during the Third Reich and seemed to be almost untouched by the war.

A cultural heritage.

  7. I know people say that cemeteries should be looked after and the plants well tended, but I always say that they should be left to look just like this, untouched, and the memories of people being allowed to grow old, life goes on. Fantastic photos. xx

  8. Remarkable place - you would have thought it would have been a target for desecration.
