In March I travelled to the North of Germany and visited Luebeck and its red brick Gothic churches. Built more than 700 years ago they are still impressive. Inside the St Mary`s church are the bells which came down after the bombing in 1942 which left the church almost completely burnt out.
The bells lie where they fell and where they remain as a memorial against war .

Two excellent photos, and great information.
ReplyDeleteGreat pictures, and a heavy (sic!) symbol of the ways of war!
ReplyDeleteGreat images of a great idea.

ReplyDeleteOh...no...this is a silent and peaceful moment...
ReplyDelete...beautiful...
Sehr schöne Aufnahmen - in schwarz/weiß vielleicht sogar noch ein wenig beeindruckender als in Farbe.
ReplyDeleteHab' ein schönes Wochenende & liebe Grüße ... Frauke
Fabulous tones! Great captures Karen!! I'm so glad they left them...what a memorial.
ReplyDeleteI really like the second shot...the juxtaposition of the window, candle and pottery shards make an interesting composition...
ReplyDeleteI particularly like the lighting in these two shots.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful luminosity in these shots despite the brokenness. War is such a tragedy.
ReplyDeleteWonderful shots and I like that the bells were left as is.
