A couple of days on Lamu Island in Kenya
A wonderful little island with magnificent architecture dating back to the fourteenth century when the first mosque and a harbour were founded by Arab traders.
Lamu Old Town is one of the oldest Swahili settlements in East Africa. Wonderfully carved doors are one of the many features which can still be found.
There are no roads on the island, only small alleyways. Donkeys are being used for transport and for carrying goods.
They are not always being treated well.
Stone benches provide shade and rest on a hot day .
Frauke
Wow, you stayed in paradise on earth! Donkey transportation is cute. I sincerely hope for their good life.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing and have a wonderful weekend.
In its own way...kinda reminds me of Fez in Morocco...the water is so gorgeous...is it as clean as it appears? Are you back home now?
ReplyDeleteLooks idyllic unless perhaps you are a donkey?!
ReplyDeleteHave a great week
