Villandry from the inside...

The chateau stands on the grounds of an old fortress and was constructed in the early 16th century. Confiscated during the French Revolution it was bought by Emperor Napoleon who handed it over to his younger brother Jèrome Bonaparte.
A good hundred years ago a doctor from Spain and his American wife acquired the property and with a lot of devotion ( and money!) restored the chateau and its grounds to its former glory.

  1. I love looking at old marble steps like that...you can SEE the wear and tear on them. Such character.

  2. So schön - wenn ich auch nicht unbedingt darin wohnen wollen würde.
