Ai Weiwei in Berlin!
The golden copies of the zodiac sculptures were used as a kind of a water and sun clock.
The originals( c. 1750) were ordered by the Emperor and and were exhibited in a garden with European elements.
During the Opium war the gardens were plundered and some of the sculptures travelled to Europe and ended up in the art collection of Yves Saint -Laurent!

Really like the use of empty space in that last image!

Fascinating sculptures of heads.
ReplyDeleteInteresting sculptures.
