Black & White Wednesdays

A small hamlet in the southwest of Madagascar. The people were out to graze their cattle which is not an easy task in this dry and hostile environment. This little house is the home of a whole family. In tribal communities in this part of the country approximately 80 percent of what people earn is being saved towards the funeral to give you a better afterlife. The graves are in comparison big and massive. But I will save that for another day...

  1. In Schwarz/Weiß sieht das Heim der Familie tatsächlich so kümmerlich aus, wie es ist. Wie gut es uns doch geht!

  2. These interesting images look like some from the end of the 19th century in the Australian bush.

  3. I find it really interesting to see how other people live. Despite the circumstances, most of these people seem to be genuinely happy (at least in my personal encounters). It sometimes makes me wonder if all of our "trappings" are really worth it. I am interested to see the graves too.

  4. I love coming here Karen... I discover and learn so much. So fascinating how the focus of their earnings is put into their afterlife. Like this hamlet shows, I imagine an entire life of sacrifice and faith. And hopefully happiness.
