Yesterday was World Lion Day but I decided that just one day is not enough for such a regal animal which is at the brink of extinction. It already vanished in seven African countries. Mostly due to human / wildlife conflicts, loss of their natural habitat and hunting. People, with the latest example being the infamous dentist from the US, pay a lot of money for a "licence" to kill.

A pack of lions can have up to 30 members, mostly females with their offspring and two or three males.
Humbling experience to see them passing so close to our car.
The youngsters were fooling around. Lions are very social animals.

These are very nice photos! It's awesome to see them in their natural habitat. I was so sad earlier last week to have discovered a museum by one of our local politicians. The museum showcases his prize kills. It was very disturbing. I didn't know that was what the museum contains until I was inside.
ReplyDeleteHello, these are awesome shots of the lions. It would be cool to see them alive and well in their habitat. Have a happy day and week ahead!

ReplyDeleteWhen I was a child, I dreamed of going on safari and seeing beautiful beasts like these in the wild. You have reminded of me of that, something that had faded into the background. Thank you. And thank you for continuing to share!

What beautiful creatures. I only see them in the zoo.
ReplyDeleteWe had a wonderful experience looking for lions and then just sitting and watching them when we went to Africa several years ago. We got very close and I got some great pictures. I don't know how anyone could shoot them and feel proud.
ReplyDeleteHappy travels, and thank you for stopping by my blog this week.
I am enjoying lion week so far. I find hunting for sport disgusting. :(
